Why These Hyundai Hybrids & PHEVs Should Be on Your List

May 10th, 2023 by

Hyundai was one of Colorado’s 2022 top-selling hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle brands. Coloradans are embracing the eco-friendliness of these vehicles in record numbers. And Schomp Hyundai is here to help! We are excited that the respected automotive publication, Car and Driver, has welcomed three Hyundai models onto its list of “Best Hybrid Vehicles of 2023 and 2024.”

Car and Driver put available hybrid vehicles through a comprehensive testing regimen and came up with those it considers to be the best of the best. The 2023 Santa Fe Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), the Sonata Hybrid, and Tucson Hybrid/Plug-in Hybrid all claimed places. And for good reason.

SUVs are wildly popular in Colorado, so the convenience of an SUV with the eco-friendliness of a hybrid or PHEV is a winning combination. Car and Driver  agrees. The two-row 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid has a 226-horsepower hybrid powertrain that gets an EPA rating of 32 mpg combined city/highway. The Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV gets a combined city/highway EPA rating of 76 MPGe. Hyundai has five Santa Fe hybrid and PHEV models: Blue Hybrid, SEL Premium Hybrid, Limited Hybrid, SEL Convenience PHEV and Limited PHEV.

Mid-size family sedans aren’t as popular here in Colorado, but they still have appeal, especially – as with the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid – they get great gas mileage. The 2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has 192 horsepower and gets and EPA-estimated 51 mpg on the highway. Car and Driver said the Sonata Hybrid “is an impressive bargain when viewed at the intersection of price and equipment.”

Car and Driver highlighted the 2023 Hyundai Tucson for “cutting-edge style,” saying it boasts both practicality and affordability. Certainly the 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid/PHEV put these qualities front and center. Using a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor, they have plenty of get-up-and-go. And they sure are friendly to the environment. The Tucson Hybrid gets a combined EPA city/highway 37 mpg rating (the Blue version gets 38 mpg), while the 2023 Hyundai Tucson PHEV gets a whopping combined EPA rating of 80 mpg!

At Schomp Hyundai, we get that cars are one of the most expensive purchases consumers make. But we also know that when you invest in one of these great Hyundai Hybrid models you end up saving money on gasoline – and if you care about the environment, it’s definitely a step in the right direction. Visit us on the Havana Motor Mile and we will happily show you why our Hyundai hybrids and PHEVs made the Car and Driver list of “Best Hybrid Vehicles of 2023 and 2024.”
