Nothing Crazy about These Eight Award-Winning Hyundais

March 16th, 2023 by

Hyundai scored a huge coup this year – landing eight models on the 2023 Car and Driver Editor’s Choice list.  Why is that such a big deal?

Out of more than 400 models of cars, trucks, SUVs and vans sold in the U.S., only about a quarter of them – 125 – make it onto the list. Having eight of our Hyundais tapped by this prestigious automotive publication is worth bragging about.

The choices are not made lightly. Each vehicle is compared only to other vehicles in the same class. For example, compact SUVs to other compact SUVs. Rigorous testing is involved, and all aspects of a vehicle are considered:

  • Performance
  • Interior sound level
  • Fuel economy and driving range
  • Cargo space and storage
  • Visibility and seating height
  • Center of gravity height
  • Infotainment
  • Safety and warranty
  • Editor’s observations

Consumers that have been bewildered and/or confused by all the choices, knowing which ones have gotten Car and Driver’s stamp of approval makes your job easier. That’s why the annual Editor’s Choice awards exist.

Ricky Lao, director, product planning, Hyundai Motor America said, “Each of these models offer innovative design, powerful, eco-efficient drivetrains, driver convenience and advanced safety features, and it’s clear these attributes resonate with industry experts and customers alike. We’re especially proud of our six SUV model awards, as we continue to increase our leadership position in SUV segments.”

And now the list, and some of what the editors found noteworthy. (Drum roll, please):

  • Hyundai Kona – Subcompact SUV. The editors called out its “funky styling, high-value feature list”  as well as its turbo engine.
  • Hyundai Tucson – Compact SUV. Notable for “future-forward styling, near-luxury cabins,” and the optional hybrid powertrains.
  • Hyundai Palisade – Mid-size SUV. Editors liked the intuitive control layout, “generous” standard equipment and “value-oriented pricing.”
  • Hyundai Santa Fe – Mid-size SUV. Affordable pricing and desirable equipment in the lower trim levels as well as its “comfy” ride were noted.
  • Hyundai Santa Cruz – Compact pickup. A nod to its “carlike handling and cushy ride” as well as its polished interior, lockable cargo-box cover and in-bed truck.
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 – Electric SUV. Its “undeniably distinctive design” is a notable feature, as well as how much fun it is to drive, how fast it charges and its ride.
  • Hyundai Elantra N – Sport compact car. Editors said they liked its strong performance, “rowdy exhaust note,” and “tenacious grip.”
  • Hyundai Sonata – Family sedan. Considered a great value with “impressive fuel economy.”

For our money, it’s not really a tough choice – Hyundai has you covered for almost any kind of a vehicle you’d want. Okay, choosing among these award-winning Hyundais might be tough, but one of Schomp Hyundai’s client advisors would cheerfully help you find just the right one for you.
