The 2022 Hyundai Kona N: High Performance in an Accessible Crossover

July 9th, 2021 by

Do “Hyundai” and “high performance” belong together? You bet!

Hyundai applies lessons learned from its many racing successes on the 2022 Kona N small SUV, making its Schomp Hyundai debut this fall. As CarBuzz.com’s Jay Traugott reported, “This is the one we’ve been waiting for…the hot crossover…”

The Meaning of “N”

The N Logo swoops like a racing track. That’s deliberate: The N was born at the Hyundai Motor Namyang R&D Center and refined on Germany’s storied Nurburgring race track, where it was tested, inspected and refined on the track’s 73 corners and grueling stretches, “quite possibly the harshest on-road environment on Earth,” according to Hyundai.

The Hyundai Kona N by the Numbers

The 2022 Kona N is the high-performance version of the popular Kona SUV. This monster vehicle in a compact SUV package is track-worthy but will handle city driving with refinement. The 2022 Hyundai Kona N offers:

  • 280-hp, 2.0-liter Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine with 289 lb-ft of torque
  • 8-speed West DCT with rev-matching and paddle shifters
  • Driving modes: N Grin Shift, N Power Shift, N Track Sense Shift – Launch Control for fast-off-the-line starts
  • High-performance braking
  • All-wheel drive
  • Choice of driving modes, including N Mode and Launch Control
  • N-Corner Carving Differential (eLSD)
  • Active Sport Exhaust System
  • Electronically Controlled Suspension
  • N Design 19-inch allow wheels with Pirelli P-Zero Performance Tires

And…did we mention?  UNLIMITED DRIVING FUN!

Hot Inside and Out

The 2022 Hyundai Kona N is just as exciting inside with a 10.25-inch infotainment and digital cluster system. Drivers can monitor driving information in real time. Audio delivered by Harman Kardon® 8-speaker system, wireless charging, racing-inspired N design leather-bolstered sport seats with Performance Blue accents.

Safety and driver assistance features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and a Back-up Camera.

Don’t Forget the N Line

Hyundai offers upgraded versions of several models – the “N Line.” Outfitted with sporty design elements that enhance both looks and aerodynamics. They are more powerful, more agile and offer superior performance. So if you’re not ready to go all-in with the 2022 Hyundai Kona N or Veloster N, you can still get some pretty solid thrills from the N Line.
