Hyundai Has Great New and Used Vehicle Choices for Teenage Drivers

July 2nd, 2024 by

When it comes to cars, teenagers probably want fun and freedom, but parents want the safest cars they can get. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and consumer evaluation organization Consumer Reports (CR) has you covered, collaborating on the recently released “2024 Teen Driver Vehicle Recommendation List.” Eight Hyundai models made the list in three categories: Best Used Car Choices, Good Used Car Choices and Best New Car Choices, based on these criteria:

  • Reliability – above average in Consumer Reports evaluations (4 or 5 out of 5)
  • Emergency handling scores of 3 or higher out of 5
  • Braking performance on dry surfaces of 60 mph to zero in 145 feet or less
  • IIHS good ratings on original moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the driver-side small overlap test
  • As rated by the federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 4 or 5 stars out of 5

A Schomp Hyundai client advisor can help you find just the right Hyundai for your teen (or for yourself!). Here are the choices that the IIHs and CR recommend across the spectrum of possibilities:

Best Used Vehicle Choices – All have standard automatic emergency braking systems that earn an advanced or superior rating from IIHS in the original vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention test and scored “good” by IIHS in the original moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the driver-side small overlap test.

  • 2021 Hyundai Sonata
  • 2020 or newer Hyundai Tucson
  • 2019, 2020, 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Good Use Vehicle Choices – All scored “good” by IIHS in the original moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the driver-side small overlap test.

  • 2018-19 Hyundai Kona

Keeping your teenage driver as safe as possible is a combination of good training, good judgement and a great, safe vehicle. Schomp Hyundai can help with the vehicle, and parents hopefully will work toward the rest.
