How the Boxy 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Shows off Out-of-the-Box Thinking

The boxy look is in (think Land Rover Defender, Ford Bronco, Rivian R1S), and the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe, which will come to Schomp Hyundai early next year, takes the boxy look (MotorTrend.com calls it “block-tacular) to a high level of sophistication and comfort for a moderate price. Here’s a sneak peek at the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. 

The mid-size, fifth-generation Santa Fe SUV has been totally redesigned for 2024 – CarandDriver.com calls it a “wild design transformation.” The redesign brings a lot of new and cool features with it. For instance:

• The front and back both have been redesigned to incorporate H-shaped lighting
• The 2024 Santa Fe is bigger, with a longer wheelbase, taller, and choice of wheels. The liftgate is larger to facilitate loading and unloading.
• There are three rows of seating. Leg rests and fully reclining seats are for front-row passengers; second-row captain’s chairs can be equipped with power adjustments and the third-row seats can be reclined. Behind the third row is 26 cubic feet of cargo space and the second and third rows can be folded flat. 
• Inside, there are more rectangles and H-patterns from the panoramic dashboard with two 12.3-inch displays for gauges and infotainment. There’s a dual wireless smartphone charging pad and additional USB-C ports. An available sanitizing tray sprays small items with UV light. 
• The Hyundai Santa Fe not only looks but is roomier and has maximized space by relocating the shift lever to the steering column, adding more capacity in the reach-through center console and doors, and don’t forget the cargo area and tailgate, which Hyundai calls “terrace-like living space.” There are a lot of soft surfaces and eco-friendly materials. 
• Choose from 10 exterior colors; upholstery choices are cloth (SE), H-Tex® (SEL, XRT), Leather (Limited) and Nappa Leather (Calligraphy)
• Hyundai’s Digital Key 2 allows remote access and startup via a smartphone. 

There are two powertrains for the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe: a gas-powered XRT 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder making 277 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque is the base. It pairs with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and will do zero-60 in eight seconds. All-wheel drive is an option. The SE trim comes in a gasoline only version, while the SEL, XRT, Limited and Calligraphy trims can be either gasoline-powered or hybrid. Estimated fuel economy is 22 city/33 hwy/28 combined.

The very efficient hybrid comes with a 1.6-liter turbo four plus electric motor that combines for 226 hp using a six-speed transmission and AWD that does zero-60 in 9.5 seconds. Estimated fuel economy is 30 city/25 hwy/32 combined. A PHEV may be coming a bit later.

The Santa Fe is not a real off-roader, but the XRT, “is designed to handle challenging terrains with confidence and ease,” according to Hyundai. Indeed, the Santa Fe’s wider tailgate and boxy shape, which accommodates tents on the roof, is a camper’s dream. Watch the video

All versions of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe  are equipped with impressive driver assistance and safety features, including a new Driver Attention Warning and Driver Monitoring System (to analyze vital signs). Smart Cruise Control 2 uses the nav system to maintain speed around curves while Highway Driving Assist 2 keeps a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. Add Speed Limit Assist, Rear View Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Front/Rear Parking Distance Warning, Surround View Monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Safe Exit Assist.

Hyundai makes this 2024 Santa Fe easy on the pocketbook, too, beginning at under $34,000 for the base SE front-wheel drive gas-powered model, just $40,600 for the middle trim XRT AWD gas-powered model and topping out at $46,500 for the top-of-the-line Calligraphy gas-powered model. The hybrid Santa Fe starts at $36,950 (SEL FWD) and tops out under $50,000 for the Calligraphy All-Wheel Drive version. And of course, they all come with Hyundai’s market-leading warranty and three years of complimentary maintenance.
