How Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 Raises the Stakes for Next-Gen Electrics

Tesla beware! Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 – is a stunner. Arriving at Schomp Hyundai early next year, MotorTrend called it “A Striking, Swoopy Stake in the Electric Car Ground. One more step in Hyundai’s relentless march toward mainstream EV domination.” It’s part of Hyundai’s plan to
launch more than 30 EV models by 2030.

The Ioniq 6 is a four-door, midsize, fastback complementing the already-available Ioniq 5. It’s built on the Hyundai Electric Global Modular Platform and clearly based on the 2020 Prophecy EV concept car. Forbes said, “the curved and rear spoiler design maintains some of the concept
features,” and is an “entirely new look more aligned with sportier luxury EVs.”

Uniquely Ioniq 6
Choose between 77.4 kWh or 53 kWh battery packs and rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive. The larger battery with AWD and dual motors brings 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque and can hit 62 mph in 5.1 seconds. The potential range is up to 380 miles on a charge; Ioniq 6’s
aerodynamic design minimizes drag coefficient to 0.21. Charging is fast with its 800-volt system and 350kW charger; you can charge it from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Choices
Besides battery pack and front-wheel or all-wheel drive, driving style is customizable, and several different paint colors and finishes are available. Most impressive is the Dual Color Ambient Lighting with 64 color choices to reflect your mood. The cool color factor is amped up with Speed Sync Lighting, which synchronizes the front seat lighting brightness with your speed. And watch for the Parametric Pixel Lighting on both interior and exterior.

Comfort and Sustainability
Hyundai describes Ioniq 6’s interior as “cocoon-inspired,” suitable for stress-free driving, resting/healing, or even working. Watch the Ioniq 6 video premiere. “Ethical Uniqueness” is based on sustainable materials such as eco-process leather or recycled PET fabric for seats, bio
TPO skin on the dashboard, bio PET fabric for the headliner, recycled fishing nets for the carpet, and bio paint manufactured from vegetable oil. The legroom is impressive.

Advanced Safety and Tech
Two integrated 12.3 screens give digital driving info and infotainment. The Ioniq 6 takes the buttons off the armrests and offers voice activation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the ability to connect two devices simultaneously. The Ioniq 6 has Hyundai’s SmartSense ADAS suite
including highway driving assist, lane centering, forward collision-avoidance assist, smart cruise control, lane departure changing, and more.
