Great Child Seat Safety Drives Hyundai Tucson to a Big Award

When someone comes into Schomp Hyundai looking for a new vehicle to accommodate the family, one of the things they should note is how well the children’s car seats will work in the second row. Vehicle fatalities are on the rise, and ensuring kids are as safe as possible, is 100% critical. That’s why we’re so proud that our 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid (and sister gas-powered Tucson) were included among the  Cars.com “Best Cars for Car Seats” awards.

Certified child car seat technician Jennifer Geiger and her colleague, Editor-in-Chief Jenni Newman, evaluated a year’s worth of data on tests they conducted on 55 new manufacturer-supplied vehicles. The 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid – the vehicle they actually tested – came out with straight As. 

What Gets Evaluated 

The vehicles’ LATCH system (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) was a particular focus. They said, “The two sets of lower anchors sit just inside the seat bight, where the back and bottom cushions meet. They’re easy to find and use. The three top tether anchors on the seatbacks are exposed and clearly labeled for easy connection.” Grade “A.”

But they also checked out how each type of car seat worked in the Tucson. It accommodates two child car seats abreast. 

• Infant seat – “A” because, “This seat was easy to install, and our 5-foot-7-inch front passenger had just enough space in front of it.”
• Rear-facing convertible – “A” because, “As with the infant seat, the convertible in rear-facing mode was easy to install and fit well behind the front passenger seat.”
• Forward-facing convertible – “A” because, “This seat installed easily and fit well. The Tucson’s head restraints are removable, so the car seat can fit flush against the seatback.”
• Booster seat: “A” because, “The booster also fit well, and again, the head restraint can be removed to situate the booster against the seatback. The seat belt buckle is on an arm that can be angled up in a convenient position, so kids should be able to buckle up independently.

Colorado Child Seat Regulations

The law is very specific about who must use a child car seat:

• Under 1 year and less than 20 lbs – rear-facing car seat and located in the rear seat if there is one.
• 1-4 years between 20-40 lbs – rear-facing or forward-facing car seat located in rear seat if available.
• 4-8 years – booster seat located in rear seat if available.
• 9-18 years – properly fitted seat belt or child restraint system.
