2019 Hyundai Veloster Debut at NAIAS
Everything you should know about the 2019 Hyundai Veloster after its debut at the North American International Auto Show
After a year on the sidelines, the funky Hyundai Veloster is making a triumphant return to the Hyundai lineup for the 2019 model year. Debuting at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this week, we got our first look at the second-generation hatch. Spoiler alert: It’s awesome!
Fortunately, the Veloster retains its unique styling while also receiving important updates that will elevate it to a perennial top contender in its class.
Size and style updates
The Veloster retains its character, but also receives some sleek updates that we love. The front-end gets a new look with a wider, hexagonal grille that provides a new element of toughness. The Veloster also gets incrementally larger, growing by 0.8 inches in length and 0.4 inches in width. While height remains consistent at 55.1 inches, there is about a half inch more headroom in the 2019 model.
What makes this funky hatch go?
Drivers will have the choice a choice between two engines in the 2019 Hyundai Veloster near Denver, CO. In its base configuration, a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine does the job, producing 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. For reference, that’s 15 extra horsepower and 12 more pound-feet of torque than the previous model. This engine will pair with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
If you decide to level up to higher trims, a 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI engine gets the call, with outputs of 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque.
What’s going on inside?
While we don’t have the full feature breakdown by trim at this point, we do know the 2019 Veloster will be equipped with some great new tech, including a head-up display, an 8-inch infotainment screen, wireless phone charging, an array of active safety features, and an Infinity sound system.
Although we don’t have a release date for the 2019 Hyundai Veloster, we’ll be anxiously awaiting its arrival here in Colorado. Stay posted to our blog and website for more updates on this all-new redesigned hatchback.
